After Thomas passed away in 1919, Ella took over the house and turned it into a boarding residence. When she died in 1961, she left the house to a long-time boarder (name removed for family privacy), who lived there until the 1980s. The property changed hands when the son of the second owner, a military veteran, returned home and sold it to its third owners. A young family lived there until 2011, making several updates along the way.
In 2012, a young couple became the fourth owners, but they had to move soon after due to work obligations. The current owners bought the house that same year, and have worked hard to keep its historical charm while adding modern comforts. Now, as empty nesters, they’re ready to downsize and look forward to the next chapter of their retirement!
LIST OF IMPROVEMENTS:
30 new vinyl windows
2 storm doors added to both front entrances
Upgraded to 2 newer, larger, and more energy-efficient AC units within the past 4 years, resulting in reduced summertime cooling costs. Blow-in insulation installed in the attic space
Attic roof vent added
Basement walls blocked and braced to install an external barrier for moisture and weatherproofing.
Replaced both roll-up garage doors were replaced with insulated aluminum doors, all the while maintaining the historic look. The front wraparound porch decking has also been recently replaced with gray color composite decking.
AMENITIES:
5 min walk to downtown Guthrie! Pollard Theater, coffee shops, shopping, and great live music venues! 1min walk to the Capitol, water park, disc golf and more! Mehr anzeigen Weniger anzeigen Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, with a rich history that goes back to before Oklahoma became a state in 1907! Built by Thomas Foster and Ella McKennon, this house is a reminder of their lasting legacy. Thomas was a well-respected lawyer in Guthrie, and the McKennon family had strong ties to the area, having also owned the famous Opera House, which sadly burned down over a century ago.
