One of my favorite lake is Just minuets from the Ranch you can find Lake Conconnully one of the best fishing lakes in the area. Lake Conconully is 292.60 acres in size. There is a great variety of fish in the lake everything from Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Kokanee Largemouth Bass, and Smallmouth Bass. Rainbow are fat and abundant, and are usually taken in limit numbers on the opening weekend of the season and for many weeks after.Rainbow average 10 to 13 inches in Conconully Lake, and a good number of carryovers of 15 inches are taken in the spring.Many anglers are after the kokanee on the lake.The kokanee are often larger than the average rainbow.Trolling with Kokabow blades and spinners will get both the rainbow and the trout.It is also loaded with largemouth bass and it can be lots of fun, especially for youngsters to catch them.Anglers are encouraged to take their limit of bass as they are so abundant.There is a good launch on the north shore of the lake.It is often referred to as the "upper" lake and is a very short distance from the town of Conconully. Hunting Grouse The best forest grouse hunting is found in the northeastern and north-central part of the state. Okanogan County led the way in grouse harvests over the past five years, with hunters taking more than 14,600 grouse a year. Connected to the Ranch on the East side is the Scotch Creek Unit The Scotch Creek Wildlife Area encompasses 23,980 acres and is located in central Okanogan County. and is split into seven management units. It was established in 1991 as a site to support recovery of the region's sharp-tailed grouse population. The wildlife area's lands consist primarily of shrubsteppe habitat, with riparian, conifer, ponderosa pine, and aspen habitat mixed into the landscape as well. A variety of wildlife species are present, including white-tailed deer, mule deer, bighorn sheep, California quail, hawks, woodpeckers and other cavity-nesting birds, and many species of songbirds. By actively managing lands, restoring habitats, and preserving wild places, the department serves as stewards for Washington's natural places, protecting the state's land and water for its human and wildlife populations The Scotch Creek Unit is located 10 miles northwest of Omak and 4 miles southeast of Conconully in Okanogan County. The unit can be accessed from Conconully Road, Happy Hill, Silver Hill, Woodward Road, and the Limebelt Roads. The ranch has sustained up to 150 head of cattle, with 200 acres tilled and planted in alfa. The owners have used some of the timber growing on the ranch over the years for building structures and fencing on the property. The grass is a mix of fescues and bluegrass. and stays green in the valleys where the natural springs keep it moist all summer. Your cows will love all the forage to fatten them up and there is plenty of shade to keep them cool during the middle of the day. This is a great place to raise live stock the pastures are sectioned off to help keep from over grazing. There is a contant water supply from the natural springs. The pond located at the top of the property that is also fed by fresh spring water has water in it year around and has been used for irrigation in the past. There is plenty of big timber on the Ranch mostly Red Fir, Pine and Quaking Aspens. Property is currently leased to a cattle rancher for grazing purposes this proved some income and the cows eat the grass down to help prevent wildfires fires from spreading and they add fertilizer to the soils. There is also a caretaker that lives on site and rents the home from current owners on a month to month basis.
