Comenzó a ganar fama en el verano de principios de la década de 1970. Un grupo de hippies estadounidenses, suecos y holandeses descubrieron la playa, a la que no se puede acceder por carretera. Quince años después de la llegada de este grupo, la playa se ha convertido en un destino de vacaciones para algunos miembros de la élite de Lisboa.Extensa (unos 4 km) y a veces mar agitado, la parte sur de la gran duna es legal para la práctica del naturismo. Il a commencé à devenir célèbre à l'été du début des années 1970. Un groupe de hippies américains, suédois et néerlandais a découvert la plage, qui n'est pas accessible par la route. Quinze ans après l'arrivée de ce groupe, la plage est devenue une destination de vacances pour une partie de l'élite de Lisbonne.Vaste (environ 4 km) et parfois agitée, la partie sud de la grande dune est légale pour la pratique du naturisme. C'est d'ailleurs ce fait qui a fait la renommée de Praia do Meco.Cette plage est le théâtre chaque année d'un tournoi international d'ultimate frisbee : Torneio Internacional Bar do Peixe.

parquiamento para automoveis.Informações sobre a região.a Praia de Alfarim, assim chamada por causa da aldeia de Alfarim, popular pelo pão e pelas broas, é uma boa alternativa para quem procura uma praia selvagem. O acesso é feito por uma longa escadaria de madeira (não há acessos para pessoas com mobilidade reduzida) e a praia não é vigiada. É muito procurada por donos e cães para passeios e mergulhos aos fins-de-semana, mesmo durante o Inverno.Praia do Moinho de Baixo. O areal é extenso, mas o mar é agitado, com fundões e correntes fortes que exigem atenção redobrada a quem vem com miúdos. A praia é muito conhecida também pelo restaurante, o Bar do Peixe, famoso pelo peixe fresco grelhado e por pratos como as lapas com manteiga de alho. Uma boa desculpa para se esquecer de levar farnel.Praia das Bicas, é a praia ideal para quem se quer despir de preconceitos. E para quem se quer despir, no geral. A sul da Praia do Meco, próxima do parque de campismo Campimeco, e com acesso através de uma longa escadaria de madeira, é uma das praias reconhecidas pela Federação Portuguesa de Naturismo. Entretanto, a praia passou também a ser vigiada, apesar de não serem muitos os que se atrevem a entrar no mar.
